International Office should contact Bettine Hermanson at hermansb@augsburg.edu to nominate exchange students or request deadline extensions.
Application deadlines: Semester 1 (Fall) March 1 | Semester 2 (Spring) October 1
Students should apply online by going to Augsburg’s Global Gateway and creating an account. Once you have created an account, received a temporary password and then chosen a permanent password, go to the program brochure and click on the “Apply Now” button. You will need to complete the entire list of tasks in the Global Gateway to be formally admitted.
Once Augsburg has confirmed your admission, then you will need to complete another series of post-admission tasks posted in your application portal. Once admission is confirmed, Augsburg will send an official letter of admission and a DS-2019 form and instructions for you to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee (for J-1 applicants) and apply for a J-1 exchange visitor visa through the United States Embassy.
You will also receive instructions regarding how to apply for student housing and a meal plan (both required for exchange students). The ISSS Director will then work with the International Coordinator to confirm course selection and registration. The ISSS team will work with the student regarding orientation, airport pickup, what to pack, and any other logistical questions the student may have before traveling to the U.S.
You should make travel arrangements as early as possible, but no later than one month before the required arrival date. When you arrive at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport, someone from the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) team will meet you and help you move into your campus housing.
Academic staff at your school make the final decision about whether you are accepted into the International
Partners program. The minimum academic requirements are:
Minimum: 12 US Semester Credits (most courses are four credits each)
Maximum: 19 US Semester Credits
Generally Norwegian students register for 16 US Semester Credits (which fulfills 30 ECTS)
Faculty & staff at your school, together with ISSS staff and faculty at Augsburg, will determine Augsburg courses that fulfill your degree requirements. When your Augsburg study program has been approved, ISSS staff will enroll you in those courses. More information about prospective courses will be found in the Course Registration Questionnaire in your online application account. Use Course Search to find courses offered by Semester and Department. Use the Course Catalog to find a general overview of courses by major (all courses not offered every semester).
Norwegian exchange students receive housing and a 15-plus meal plan as part of the financial aid package. Housing & Meal Plan information is found in the Post-Decision section of the on-line application.
The 15-plus plan includes 15 meals per week in the cafeteria, plus a number of “points” which may be used at any on-campus dining location.
Exchange students share a room with another person, usually in “floor-houses” or “townhouses” in Anderson Hall. Our Residence Life Office will make final decisions based upon housing availability.
Augsburg International Student Orientation at Augsburg is a chance to learn about more resources on campus, get settled before classes start, and build relationships with other international students and the ISSS staff. This essential information gives new international students time to acclimate into the Augsburg community and make a successful cultural and academic transition into a new setting.
Transcripts are sent directly to a student’s home university 3-5 weeks after final grades have been posted.
